JULIETTE MINCHIN / SELFRIDGES / 2021
Juliette Minchin produced a piece for the large Selfridges corner window in response to the scheme Superself. "The Melting Chamber." started as a steel and wooden structure inspired by temple entrances. Juliette transformed the artwork by draping large pieces of wax onto the frame, a technique inspired by the ancient Greeks. The installation was partly a performance piece as the public watched her working "guided by the material, following its movement at each stage of the transformation." Juliette celebrates that wax can be endlessly recycled and it has so many different states and purposes. The wax candle, an ancient form, embodies hope and light in cultures all around the world. Her work celebrates the constant and ever-changing nature of life.
