SAM JACOB / SELFRIDGES / 2020
Sam Jacob was commissioned to design artwork for the scheme ‘Summer Awakening’ which celebrated the simple traditions of the season that we all yearn for and cherish. Sam designed three structures that nod towards ritualistic, folkloric, Neolithic objects and celebrations.
The merging of ambiguous stone-like objects, neon lights and bright colours gesture towards the celebration of summer thousands of years ago. Each construction represents a phase of a summer day: sunrise, high noon and sunset. "These are techno-pagan sculptures for a modern kind of nature. They might be structures for summer rituals, or for new kinds of sun salutation," Sam Jacob.
